About ScienceLink
At Science Link (Pty) Ltd., we link researchers to their audiences using both the latest digital platforms and traditional media.
Our current focus is on helping researchers plan science communication efforts, so that they make the most of available resources and understand their audiences to craft the right message in the right language on the right platform. We’re also on a mission to help “decolonise science communication”, by making research accessible beyond English, particularly in indigenous African languages and using visuals.
Science communication is about connecting science to society, and about making data, research, recommendations and technical information accessible to broader audiences. We create content and strategies for technology transfer, policy briefs, attracting new research talent, science business development, research news, annual reports, information brochures and funding applications.
Digital science communication is about connecting science to a connected society. It’s about reaching an online audience through social media, web content, data visualisation, digital storytelling, interactive apps, images, video and sound. We create content and strategies for digital newsletters, social media, interactive apps, websites and infographics to support science communication efforts.
ScienceLink also offers custom interactive training workshops for researchers, communicators and media practitioners according to their science communication and digital media needs. We facilitate media training for researchers, mutual learning between media and science, and practicals on using digital media and online/web tools.
We mainly work with universities, parastatal research organisations, non-governmental organisations, individual researchers, the scientific industry and media houses. We are based across South Africa and we work internationally on projects big and small.
Our team members all have an academic background in science and/or digital media production, and we pride ourselves on being an entrepreneurial, lean start-up that works in partnership with SciBraai, an NPO dedicated to science journalism, science communication and outreach for social good in South Africa.
